Are The Tiles Made Of Solid Metal?
Each type of tile is different, however, in general most stainless steel mosaic tiles including the tiles we offer are comprised of a real stainless steel "cap" attached to a ceramic backing. This provides two obvious advantages, the first being cost. Solid stainless steel pieces 8mm thick would increase the cost of the tiles to about $100 per square foot. Secondly, it would be very hard for the average person with the average tools, even a tile cutter, to cut a solid 8mm thick piece of stainless steel. Our copper mosaic tiles, much like our stainless steel tiles are constructed the same way.
Our aluminum mosaic tiles are made of extruded aluminum pieces, they do not feature any ceramic backing. Because aluminum is light weight and less dense than stainless steel, it is much easier to cut.
Our copper field tiles are constructed much like our stainless steel mosaic tiles, except they do not have a ceramic backing, the edges of the sheet of copper are merely folded in, to create the "thickness" of the tile.
