New York State’s Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation Goes to OCV Architects

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 22, 2006 —

The restoration and conversion of the former Bank of America International Building into a 120,000 square foot, eleven-story private school is an architectural marvel by OCV Architects who are making a better New York with their unique brand of smart, community-conscious architecture. This 25 million dollar project, which will accommodate 1000 elementary school students in 2007, is recognized for its excellent landmark preservation. OCV will be honored for their skillful gut-renovation by the New York State Historic Preservation Office, (SHPO), at their commencement in October of 2006. Jack Coogan, partner at OCV Architects, steered the project for Michael Koffler, president and C.E.O. of MetSchools, Inc., an organization dedicated to developing well-rounded schools in New York City. The plans for the new Claremont Preparatory School came as parents voiced concerns about having more quality school options in the city. Claremont is the only secular private school in Lower Manhattan’s Financial District, but it is one of many private schools developed by MetSchools with OCV Architects, including the Aaron School, the Claremont Children’s School, and the Sunshine Development School in Queens.

Built in 1929, 41 Broad St. has had a number of owners, including the Stock Exchange across the street. The grand banking hall was built with gilded columns and a Griffith Baily Coal mural, depicting the; “. . . Pageantry of the History of Commerce by Sea…“ In the 30’s, this Wall Street gem fell into disrepair, but through the grime, Jack Coogan saw the potential for a great educational facility. Starting with the 29 ft., vaulted, grand banking hall, his firm created a breath-taking auditorium by preserving the historical columns and mural. As construction progressed, the bank’s vaults became a state-of-the-art cafeteria. The crusty interior offices were transformed into classrooms, laboratories, and administration facilities. An Olympic-size swimming pool was installed in the cellar, a regulation-size, fully equipped gymnasium and outdoor playground were constructed on the roof, and the grand fa

J & L Mirrors Announces the Release of New Glass Colors

Albion, PA (PRWEB) May 3, 2010

J & L Mirrors has released 15 new glass colors. Now customers have 76 beautiful colors to choose from when designing a custom mirror.

The new colors include 4 solid colors Brandywine, Sage, Pine Green and Frost. Double colors include; Silver/Bronze or Bright Silver/Bronze, Silver/Aqua, Silver/Antique Brass, Bronze/Sage, Bronze/Aqua, and Bronze/Copper. Tri-Colors include; Silver/Bronze/Copper, Bronze/Sage/Copper and Silver/Bronze/Aqua. There is also a Duo-Bronze mix with Brandywine and a Duo-Silver mix with Brandywine. All 76 glass colors can be viewed at http://www.jlmirrors.com

J & L Mirrors colorizes clear architectural glass through a coating process they developed in 2003. This process allows for even multiple layers of color to be applied to the textured side of the art glass which brings out the textures three dimensional qualities as it is viewed through the glass’s reverse surface.

At their website, customers can completely design their own mirrors remarked co-owner Laurie Goetzinger. “It really is a revolutionary idea. Think about it, we give them total design control from size and shape of the mirror to glass colors and glass design & pattern. We have actually had quite a few people send us drawings or pictures of mirrors and we have created a finished product exactly the way they wanted it.”

J & L Mirrors of Albion Pa. has been creating and manufacturing glass framed mirrors since 2004. The inspiration to create unique art mirrors came from their experience in the interior design field. “People want to create spaces that are uniquely them,” remarked Laurie. “In so doing, not only do they create an environment in which they find peace and comfort but one that shows their singular personality & tastes.”

Jim Goetzinger co-owner of J & L Mirrors knows first hand how important it is to be able to offer your customer a service that is personal and special. “Many times people have told us how thrilled they are to be able to get a custom product that fills their design expectations perfectly. One customer told me that she had been searching the internet for 4 days to find a mirror to fit a very specific need. She told me she had just had her bathroom remodeled and the tile back splash over the vanity was very high. Since she was a short woman she needed a mirror that she would not only be able to see herself in, but that would fit the space in her new bathroom. After going back and forth with various designs we came up with a mirror that tied in with her bathroom design perfectly and she was thrilled with the finished product,” said Jim.

J & L’s Mirrors aren’t only beautiful to look at, but are as easy to hang as a picture. “We experimented a lot with the hanging process and decided on a product that adheres right to the mirror itself,” said Jim. Felt pads protect the wall and keep the mirror in alignment and a felt guard protects the mirror from being scratched during hanging.

Holiday Card Fundraiser Benefiting Parkinson’s Disease from Jim Sudal Pottery Designs

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) November 3, 2006

The Arizona chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (AZ-APDA) is debuting holiday and note cards featuring the designs of native son Jim Sudal, well known in the American southwest for capturing the unique beauty of desert plants in his handcrafted and signed pottery. Proceeds from the card sale go to AZ-APDA’s fight against Parkinson’s.

“In the past several years, there has been unbelievable progress in finding a cure,” says Anne Udall, whose Dad, former long time Arizona Congressman Morris Udall, died in 1998, after a 19-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. “There is truly hope on the horizon.”

One million Americans have Parkinson’s disease, and 40,000 more are diagnosed with it each year. Thirty percent of people with Parkinson’s are under age 50.

“I watched– first hand–how Parkinson’s disease slowly, inexorably made my Dad’s daily life more and more difficult,” recalls Anne, Chairman of the Board for the Parkinson’s Action Network and Chairman of the Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas. “It is simply awful to watch its progression, knowing that there is nothing any of us can do to delay its inevitable physical toll.”

It was Jim Sudal’s desire to help friend and fellow artist, Jean Burns, in her battle with Parkinson’s disease that led him to partner with her to transfer some of his favorite designs onto holiday and note cards.

Illustrated with blooming aloes and saguaro cactus, an agave, and a prickly pear cactus, Sudal’s cards are featured in the December issue of Phoenix Home & Garden magazine. The cards can be ordered as an assortment, or as individual designs. Customized greetings can be added with larger quantities. Order on line through the Jim Sudal Pottery website or through the AZ-APDA website.

A self-taught artist, Sudal turned his passion for the plants of the Sonoran Desert into a full-time business, devoted to doing his pottery, mosaics, and other work. One of Sudal’s mosaic murals was featured in Phoenix Home & Garden magazine’s September “Best of the Southwest” issue. Examples of his art can be seen at the Celebration of Fine Arts in Scottsdale, January 13 – March 25, 2007.

Known for his love of the environment, “Mo” Udall would have appreciated Sudal’s designs, Anne says.

“Dad absolutely refused to be defined by Parkinson’s disease,” she says. “He never lost his commitment to serving others; his profound love for his country; his kindness to those both close to him and strangers; his ability to apply his intelligence and wit to every personal and professional challenge he ever faced.”

“When I close my eyes and think of Dad, what I see most is his smile,” recalls Anne. “It was his smile that brought me such joy because it held all of who he was–his slight shyness, his keen mind, his wit, his love for his kids. Even as the PD impacted him more and more, even then, you could see that signature smile. I am so very proud to be his daughter.”

Eagle’s Deep-Drawn Sinks with New Euro-Style Design Offer Optimum Sanitation and Efficiency

Clayton, DE (PRWEB) July 25, 2007

Deep-drawn bowl sinks have just received a facelift with the introduction of the new Euro-style design from Eagle MHC. These sinks combine the latest advancements in highly functional design with corrosion-free construction to optimize sanitation and efficiency in the industrial workplace or lab settings.

New Euro-style edging on these sinks makes it easier to keep the surrounding work and floor areas clean, while a new bowl design provides more space and maneuverability for washing compared to competitor’s sink models. Moreover, Eagle MHC’s revolutionary new polishing techniques result in the best, most consistent finish available today.

Offered with a choice of one, two, three or four bowl compartments, Eagle MHC’s Euro-style sinks feature heavy-gauge stainless steel construction — including the bowls, drainboards and backsplash components. All models are approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

The sink bowls feature a deep-drawn, one-piece seamless construction, along with a swirl-away drainage design for complete evacuation of water. The Euro-style edging prevents spillage and promotes cleanliness of the floor area around the sink, while the drainboard’s die-stamped “crease” design enables faster and more complete water drainage.

Eagle MHC’s Euro-style deep-drawn sinks are constructed for rugged durability. This includes front-to-back leg braces for added rigidity and elimination of “wobble.” The leg gussets are welded to a die-cut heavy-gauge reinforcing plate to optimize sturdiness.

Most Eagle MHC Euro-design sink models come with a standard 10-inch backsplash element featuring a 1-inch upturn and tile edge for easy installation and “feathering” to any wall-splash surfaces. Other models feature a 2-inch higher backsplash, allowing for a higher faucet clearance as well as 2-inch deeper sink bowls — thereby providing four inches additional space for washing larger items.

In addition to standard product offerings, custom sink configurations are available to meet special layout requirements, including drop-in bowl configurations. Sound deadening is also available.

For more details on the complete line of deep-drawn sinks from Eagle MHC including Euro-style designs, contact Lynda Donavon with sales inquiries, or the Marketing Department with inquiries pertaining to marketing support. Tel.

Major Art News! AAArtworks Launch Awes and Amazes Art Connoisseurs at Breakout Event!

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2008

The launch event of AAArtworks by Arthur Andelson brought out a wide variety of art connoisseurs to its debut art show in Encino on October 18, 2008 and really hit it out of the park to the pleasure and glee of all of the attendees. Guests came to view unique multi-media, 3-dimensional sculpture, installation art, and paintings. This unusual showcase featured works from the original collection of its founder and artist, Arthur Andelson (http://www.aaartworks.com), and included creations made from marble, slate, copper, tile, and other tactile materials in addition to traditional two-dimensional, hand-painted, framed art work.

Amid murmurs of “oohs” and “aahs” from awed viewers, the artist emerged with his characteristic humility. “I was thrilled and humbled by the turn out and support of friends and colleagues who came to experience my work,” said the artist. “The appreciation level was so high that it encourages me to continue pushing the envelope with different artistic media to create new and unusual art pieces for discerning clientele.”

The artist provided the perfect intimate setting during the three-phase tour, answering any and all questions posed by the guests. Phase one was the installation art, a highly stylized master bathroom made of tile and marble using a mosaic style, with intricate and detailed nuances of shapes and designs, and a common Aztec theme maintained throughout the area. Phase two was a display of paintings in original custom designed frames of a variety of subject matters. The finale of the tour was the meditation room, which proved to be a peaceful and blissful place of repose and tranquility. Every group grew silent as they approached the large rose fountain sculpture embedded in the wall. The soothing sound of the water was drowned out by the wows of the attentive viewers. On an intriguing note, the guests were caught sneaking back into the meditation room throughout the evening. One of many repeated observations was that the subtle sound of the water flowed harmoniously through the sculptured roses and was pleasing to the ears and eyes.

AAArtworks provides original, exclusive, and unique art of all sizes as well as installation art – art that is functional as well as beautiful – for high end clients who commission the artist on an individual basis. AAArtworks works with interior designers and other home design professionals and consults with the home owner to create unique pieces of art that fit with the particular ambiance envisioned by the home owner.

The launch event, which took place at a private residence in Encino, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, was hosted by attorney/actress/producer Vicki Roberts (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2399449/). “I was honored to have been asked to present such a talented artist to the community,” said Roberts. “Arthur Andelson is truly an inspiration and a unique talent.” The musical ensemble group “Nobody’s Business” (http://www.myspace.com/nobodysbusinesssimivalley) provided eclectic yet soothing background music while guests dined on hors d’oeuvres and drank refreshments while enjoying the exquisite and sophisticated artistic offerings of the evening. “The energy of the crowd was so positive and enthusiastic,” said the artist, who thanked the audience at the evening’s conclusion. “While the art work is a labor of love, it is wonderful to know that it also has a practical application as well as interest for purely aesthetic reasons.”

Original signed lithographs of the paintings displayed at the art show are available for purchase. Samples of those works as well as photographs of the types of sculpture and installation art available to be commissioned will soon be on the AAArtworks new website located at http://www.aaartworks.com.

For more information about AAArtworks, please visit its website at http://www.aaartworks.com or contact its publicist, kismetproductions @ hotmail.com.
